Job Description

As the Fire Department Chief, you will be part of the management team for the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury and will play a critical role in the municipality to ensure community safety by leading call dispatch services, fire suppression, prevention, safety education, and the involvement of the fire department in emergency planning.

The ideal candidate must have recognized leadership skills to identify and complete projects deemed priority actions for this evolving service. An experienced manager, the candidate must have managed labor relations in a unionized environment, planned and controlled budgets, and presented reports and action plans to municipal and/or governmental authorities.

In the role of expert advisor, the selected individual will need to review service practices and procedures to continue improving public safety and protection in fire safety while planning the organization of emergency response and intervention methods to enable optimal deployment of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingualism (French, English) is an asset both orally and in writing.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in administration or a related field.
  • Possess NFPA 1021 Officer IFSAC or Proboard Level 4 certification.
  • Possess NFPA 1033 IFSAC or Proboard Fire Investigator certification.
  • Hold occupational health and safety certification related to fire safety in compliance with the Ministry of Labour requirements.
  • 10 years of experience as a senior officer in a structured fire service.
  • Experience managing a service composed of full-time firefighters and volunteer firefighters (an asset).
  • Good knowledge of the laws and regulations governing their area of expertise.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Excel.
  • Recognized leadership and the ability to motivate and mobilize resources.
  • Possess the following skills and abilities: strategic vision, political acumen, personnel management, negotiation, effectiveness under pressure, interpersonal skills, rigor, availability, organizational skills, and priority management.

This full-time position (35 hours/week) offers a competitive salary range starting at $116 920. The Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury offers a comprehensive and very attractive benefits package.
