Ottawa Fire Services says an operator’s foot that was trapped in a salt truck Sunday morning was safely extricated in Findlay Creek.
Firefighters say they received a call around 6:34 a.m., reporting the foot of an operator of a salt truck was “trapped in the salt conveyer belt system located behind the cab of the vehicle” in the 4000 block of Albion Road.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they quickly stabilized the machine and started the extrication process.
Crews “applied a tourniquet to the left leg of the operator above their foot,” while using specialized tools to extricate the trapped foot.
When the operator’s foot was extricated at 6:51 a.m., firefighters “applied a splint for comfort before using a scoop to safely bring the operator down from the truck.”
The operator was handed to responding paramedics.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., firefighters left the scene, and the Ottawa Police Service took over.
