Neebing’s new acting fire chief is a familiar face to the municipality’s emergency services department. Mark Shruiff, who joined the department in 2021, “brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role,” the municipality said in a bulletin on its website. He “will help propel the department further in its mission to educate, protect and serve all who live, work, and play in our municipality,” the bulletin added. Shruiff’s appointment was effective on July 1. Shruiff replaces longtime fire chief Dale Ashbee “who will continue to serve as an active member of the (emergency services) team.”
In the same bulletin, the municipality noted that Meaghan Forneri, Cody Cheesman and Jeff Lafontaine have been appointed as deputy fire chiefs. “These three long-serving members will round out and strengthen the (department’s) administrative team under the leadership of . . . Shruiff,” the bulletin said. Neebing maintains six fire halls. Recruitment of volunteers for the emergency services department is ongoing. Volunteers are required to commit to two nights per month for training, and two weekends per year for training and re-certification.
