Damage will likely exceed $500,000 in Sunday’s house fire in Waterloo; Ontario Fire Marshal sending investigator to the scene.

WATERLOO — A fire at a home on Faraday Court is under investigation, officials said Sunday.

The fire, which began Sunday morning around 8:20 a.m., caused at least $500,000 damage to the home, Fire Chief Richard Hepditch estimates.

No one was injured. Hepditch said two of the residents were out of town on the weekend and two other residents managed to get out safely, along with three dogs.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but Hepditch said there was significant damage to the second floor of the home and the fire had also spread into the roof and to the rear of the home.

It's unclear where the fire began.

"Upon arrival there was extensive fire and smoke exiting from the second floor of the home," he said. "There are no injuries or loss of life at this incident."

The amount of damage caused by the fire means there will be an investigation from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office. An officer was expected to arrive at the scene Sunday afternoon.

"There's smoke, fire and water damage extensively to the home," Hepditch said.

Fire crews from all four fire stations in the city responded to the blaze, including five trucks and 22 firefighters.
