Northern Bruce Peninsula To Consider Buying Drones

Northern Bruce Peninsula is going to look at buying some drones after securing funding from the province.

Council will consider approving the purchase of the drones from Altohelix after recently applying to Emergency Management Ontario’s Community Emergency Preparedness Grant, which opened late last year.

The grant is designed to help municipalities buy emergency supplies, equipment and services for emergency training, exercise planning, coordination, and education.

This comes after council approved applying for the grant at its Feb. 5 meeting, following a previous failed attempt.

The just over $40,000 grant application will go towards the purchase three drones, as well as the training needed.

The drones will assist in fire fighting capabilities and other department activities like road and bridge inspections.

A report from Fire Chief Jack Burt says, “Altohelix has an excellent reputation in the emergency services sector for equipment, training, and support services, and is the only drone provider recognized by the Ontario Fire College through the Office of the Fire Marshal.”

Council will consider approving this purchase during its meeting on March 25 at 1 p.m.
