HyLife fire causes about $5-M in damages in La Broquerie, MB

A fire in HyLife’s fleet maintenance building in La Broquerie on Jan. 20 could result in damages as high as $5 million.

“We got called out at about 4:08 a.m. It was mostly called out as a barn fire but with the directions we found out right way it was the truck shop,” said La Broquerie fire chief Alain Nadeau.

“It’s a total loss. It’s two buildings…and they’re fairly close to each other. When we got there, the first building the roof had collapsed already. It was finished. (The fire) was working its way in to the second (building) already.”

The office of the fire commissioner is still investigating the cause of the fire but Nadeau said it came from the north end of the north building. He estimates damages to be between $3 million to $5 million.

“There were no employees or animals inside. We want to thank the local fire department for their response,” stated a HyLife spokesperson. “This facility was used to maintain trucks. Our team has been on-site to assess the damage, which is beyond repair. We lost 10 pieces of equipment, a mix of trucks and trailers. HyLife’s leadership worked throughout the weekend to ensure no disruption to operations. We want to thank our team for their dedication in pushing forward with a solid transition plan for our fleet maintenance.”
