NORTH BAY - A recent uptick in structure fires in North Bay has prompted a reminder from the local fire department to ensure the safety of area residents.
The first fire, which occurred on Friday, Nov. 8 around 6 p.m. saw crews arrive within minutes of the call.
Upon arrival, the first arriving apparatus of crew members found the home engulfed in significant fire and smoke conditions, but they were able to determine that everyone had safely evacuated the home.
The fire grew quickly due to there being gasoline in the garage which is where the fire appeared to have started and while crews were able to successfully manage the fire, there was still significant damage done to the home.
As a result, Fire Chief Greg Saunders is advising residents to store all flammable liquids in approved fireproof storage containers.
The second blaze in the area was called in around 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.
Crews were on scene in under five minutes and upon arrival faced a significant fire which had already self vented through the front of the home.
Crews attacked the fire aggressively and had it under control in under five minutes, leaving the home with significant but reparable smoke damage.
The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
Chief Saunders reminds residents that properly located, properly maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will provide loved ones the necessary notification that there is danger present, adding that the earlier danger is identified, the better chance of getting to safety.
