Your Bethany firefighters have officially moved into their new station.
City and Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue staff, volunteers and friends celebrated the grand opening of the new Bethany fire station over the weekend. The new hall is bigger, runs more efficiently and is more accessible.
Fire Chief Mark Parkhurst thanked Station 7 co-ordinator Tim Groen, council, Deputy Chief Ron Raymer and Mark V. Wilson for helping bring the station into fruition “on time and under budget.”
“Some volunteers work for over 20 years and never see the opening of a new station. Today we get to enjoy not only a new station, but a new tanker too,” he said.
“This new station will serve not only the Bethany community, but the needs of the entire municipality. I thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this new station happen, and for all that the volunteers do each day to keep our community safe,” said Ward 8 Coun. Tracy Richardson.
Just the facts:
The new station is just up from Highway 7A on Ski Hill Road (88 Ski Hill Rd.). It replaces the old station that was on Highway 7A beside Coach’s Diner and Pizzeria.
The new station is bigger and less expensive to maintain. The extra space allows more room for training without infringing on highway borders, a problem at the old station.
The new station cost just over $1 million. Construction began in the spring of 2018 and wrapped up this summer.
