GLENBURNIE — A volunteer firefighter is to fill in as an ambulance driver on Wolfe Island when only one paramedic is on duty.

Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal is looking for the cause of a multiple alarm fire near Hess Village in Hamilton. The first call came in just after midnight on Wednesday.

NORTH BAY - No lightning was recorded across the Northeast region of Ontario, a good sign for firefighters hoping to get a handle on 53 active fires in the area as of Tuesday night. Of these 21 are not yet under control.

It was a busy span for Elizabethtown-Kitley firefighters, who responded to two major fires less than 12 hours apart Tuesday to Wednesday.

One of the two owners of a Port Colborne rental house where four members of a family were killed in a fire in late 2016 has been convicted under the Ontario Fire Code and fined $100,000.

A barn in North Dumfries is destroyed after going up in flames on Tuesday. Firefighters received the call to the property on Roseville Road between Northumberland Street and Trussler Road just before 5:30 p.m.

The Highlands needs more than yesterday's downpour to end the fire ban, said Dysart fire chief Mike Iles. Iles said he would prefer up to three days of steady rain, close to six hours each day before considering to lift the ban. 

The festival is postponed due to the Evacuation Alert in the Municipality of Temagami and continuing fire conditions in the region. Temagami’s largest campground Finlayson Point Provincial Park is not forecasted to open by the weekend.

Sudbury firefighters along with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are working on a brush fire that began burning Monday afternoon off of MR 80 behind Tracks and Wheels.
