Firefighters battled a blaze in east London on Friday that appeared to have destroyed two neighbouring homes and damaged a third.
It was about 12:15 p.m. on Friday when London Fire Department officials posted on social media about the fire, which did heavy damage to homes at 1818 and 1820 Culver Terrace, located in a neighbourhood southwest of Clarke Road and Oxford Street.
Neighbours said the fire started at about 10 a.m.
London police said Culver Drive between Culver Crescent and Clarke Road had been shut down as fire crews battled the blaze. The street was reopened to traffic at about 2 p.m.
A Free Press journalist at the scene estimated that three homes were involved in the fire, and two of them were destroyed.
Video posted on social media showed flames shooting through the roof of what appeared to be a single-storey home on a corner lot. The flames sent billows of thick smoke into the air as the video showed firefighters around the scene.
Fire officials later said two people were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation but weren’t taken to hospital. They said five people had been displaced from their homes due to the fire and would require help from Red Cross Canada.
