FIRE CHIEF STEPHEN GAMBLE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF
THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS
OTTAWA – The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) is pleased to announce that Fire Chief Stephen Gamble, CFO, MIFireE, was elected President of the Association at its annual conference last week in St. John’s, NL. Chief Gamble assumes the Presidency from CAFC Past President Rob Simonds, CFO and Fire Chief for the Hamilton Fire Service, who served as President since 2010.
Chief Gamble is the Fire Chief for the Township of Langley, British Columbia, and has served as the CAFC’s 1st Vice-President and previously as the 2nd Vice-President of the Association. He has extensive experience as a leader on the CAFC Board of Directors and as a Past President of the Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia (FCABC) as well as being the current President of the BC Group of the Canadian Institute of Fire Engineers.
“Chief Gamble represents the best of the Canadian Fire Service. He has proven himself to be a leader within the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia,” said CAFC Past President Rob Simonds. “With more than 30 years of experience serving his community in both the volunteer and fulltime career Fire Service, Chief Gamble is ideally suited to lead our Association in our role as the National Voice of the Canadian Fire Service,” concluded Chief Simonds.
Chief Gamble first entered the Fire Service in 1978 as a volunteer firefighter with the City of the Port Coquitlam, becoming a fulltime career firefighter in 1980. Before his appointment as Fire Chief for the Township of Langley, Chief Gamble served as the Fire Chief and Emergency Coordinator for the City of Port Coquitlam since 2003.
Chief Gamble has more than 12 years of experience as an adjunct instructor with the Justice Institute of BC and, along with a number of certifications, holds a Certificate in Municipal Management with the University of Capilano, a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice and Public Leadership with Simon Fraser University and retains two designations: Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) and Chief Fire Officer (CFO).
“I am a proud member of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and I am humbled to be elected by my peers to lead our Association,” said Chief Gamble on his election as President. “As Fire Service leaders we can only succeed in keeping the public safe by working with our communities, our provincial and territorial associations and by building on our strong industry partnerships. I also look forward to strengthening the CAFC’s role as a trusted advisor to the federal government. I am excited about what the future holds for our Association.”
