A 12-hectare forest fire in a remote area of Trent Lakes township in northern Peterborough County continued to rage on Wednesday.

Recent thunderstorms and hot weather have led to a rash of forest fires in the northeast, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Municipalities throughout the area have issued fire bans. That includes North Bay, East Ferris, West Nipissing, Chisholm, Powassan, Nipissing, Callander, Mattawa, Burks Falls, Sundridge, Magnetawan, Kearney and Perry.
