BOWMANVILLE — St Marys Cement Bowmanville plant is helping Clarington battle future floods with a donation of equipment and a storage unit to the Clarington Fire Department.

Careless use of contraband cigarettes is a leading cause of fires, injuries—​even fatalities—in London, Ont. That's according to the London Fire Department, which began tracking fires related to contraband cigarettes this year. 

A large fire has destroyed a chicken barn north of Tavistock. Firefighters were called to Kraak Farms at Ebenezer Road and Highway 19 just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources says dozens of forest fires remain out of control, with the most pressing in the province’s northeast now measuring more than 82 square kilometres.

House pets in East Hawkesbury can breathe a bit easier now.  The township’s fire department now owns oxygen masks for cats and dogs rescued from burning buildings.  The three masks were received last week at the St-Eugène fire station.
