Fire crews in Muskoka responded to a fire that caused ‘significant’ damage to a home in the Bracebridge area Sunday morning.
According to Kevin Plested, Bracebridge’s fire chief, Stations 1 and 2 were dispatched to reports of a house on fire at around 9:30 a.m. near Wellington Street and Santa’s Village Road.
Six apparatuses and approximately 30 firefighters were involved in the response.
Plested told CTV News that the two occupants heard their smoke alarms activate and evacuated safely. One of them reportedly suffered a minor ankle injury.
“Residents are reminded that working smoke alarms save lives,” said Plested, in an email to CTV News. “In this case, the owner of the property was diligent in ensuring they had working smoke alarms installed on all levels of the home.”
Plested adds that the home suffered significant damage, but it is believed to be insured.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious. An investigator remained on site after the incident.
