Free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to those who need them most

A new initiative by North Bay Fire & Emergency Services and Enbridge Gas hopes to get free combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms into North Bay homes.

It's called “Safe Community Project Zero” and is a public education campaign developed by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.

Over 250 units are available to the community throughout the year.

"It is at no cost to the owners. NBFES will ensure the alarms are inspected, installed and are operable in your household and we can answer any other questions on fire safety when we attend the home," says Fire Prevention Officer Chris Nichol.

"We’re looking for homeowners who could benefit from these life-saving devices, especially seniors, people living alone, those with disabilities and families facing financial challenges."

If you or someone you know qualifies, call the fire department. "Our team will visit, assess, and ensure proper installation—at no cost to you."

Rental properties are not eligible for this program.
