Belleville firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire on MacDonald Avenue Tuesday.

First responders were also on scene to treat seven people who were in the structure at the time of the blaze.

Deputy Fire Chief Mark Shannon said “two people were rescued by firefighters and five people managed to get out on their own.”

They were “assessed by paramedics with three transported to hospital,” he said.

“Police closed the street between Dundas and Bridge Street East.”

By late afternoon, “the Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to send an investigator to work with Belleville, fire investigators, and Belleville police.”

There was no word on a cause of the blaze by deadline.

No damage estimate was available at the time.
