No one was hurt when a business in London’s Old East Village went up in flames Monday evening.
Fire crews responded to 779 Dundas St. around 8:30 p.m.
Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger told CTV News most of the fire was contained to the back of the building.
He said the building, which is at least 100 years old, had heavy security and a thick roof, so it was challenging for firefighters to get inside to knock the fire down.
“We did call in a secondary aerial truck to assist us at the rear of the property, which allowed us to get access to that roof area. Obviously, due to the nature of the building, it’s a considerably older building. It’s got a lot of layers of roofing material on top of it, so it took quite a bit of firefighting efforts to get access to that fire and get it put out,” said Mosburger.
He said it took about two and a half hours to put the fire out.
The cause has been deemed accidental and Damage is estimated at $250,000.
