Several animals died this morning in a large barn fire that closed a road near Elmira on Friday morning.

Woolwich Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in a large barn near Three Bridges Road in Elmira at about 9:30 a.m.

35 firefighters worked on putting out the blaze, which is now considered to be in the overhaul stage, which is when firefighters search the wreckage for remnants of the fire.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and firefighters saved 10 cattle from the fire. Several other livestock died, the exact number of which is still unknown.

Three Bridges Road in Elmira has since reopened.

Fire crews are still operating tanker shuttles in the Elmira area and advising the public of a potential road slowdown.
