An early morning fire in Dundalk has been deemed suspicious and is being investigated by the Dundalk Fire Department, Grey Bruce OPP and the Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
Just before 5:30 a.m. Friday, police responded along with firefighters from Dundalk and Shelburne to the fire at a residence on Mackenzie Street.
Dundalk Fire Chief Malynyk said via e-mail that when the department arrived just six minutes after the call came in, flames and smoke were coming from a main floor rear window of the home. The fire was under control less than 15 minutes later and was contained to the structure it originated in, he said.
There were no occupants in the residence at the time of the fire, Grey Bruce OPP said in a news release.
The Dundalk department had five apparatus on scene along with 12 firefighters, while a ladder truck from Shelburne along with five firefighters also attended as part of the automatic aid agreement, Malynyk said. Firefighter apparatus began clearing the scene just before 8 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking residents of Mackenzie Street to check any cameras they may have for any activity that appears suspicious.
