Under the direction of the Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Prevention Inspectors are responsible for carrying out comprehensive complaint investigations, fire protection inspections and surveys, and promoting and enforcing fire safety regulations.

Directly in line with the Town of Innisfil’s Strategic Plan 2030, you will develop, deliver and evaluate public education programs throughout the community and provide fire safety training to various client groups and will also be responsible for:

  • Conducting fire inspections of all building types to enforce Ontario Fire Code compliance with all applicable legislation and standards, and issuing orders requiring compliance with regulations
  • Reviewing and commenting on development and building permit applications and plans ensuring compliance with provincial and/or municipal fire legislation, codes, regulations and by-laws
  • Evaluating and monitoring fire safety plans by reviewing, providing comments, and approving submitted fire plans ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code
  • Assisting the Fire Marshal by conducting post-fire investigations for the purpose of determining fire cause and origin; maintaining detailed records, preparing reports and providing evidence before Court; initiating and participating in prosecutions

We are seeking a candidate with the following accreditations: 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Fire Protection Technology, Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with the following: property inspections, codes, by-laws, acts and related regulations; reading and interpreting blueprints and understands building construction; installation or maintenance / design of fire protection systems. i.e. sprinkler, fire alarm and kitchen suppression systems; public fire and life safety education programs; investigating fires for the determining origin and cause.
  • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner level I certification (minimum). Completion of the NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner level II, NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator level I, NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator, and BCIN qualifications are assets.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Fire and Building Codes, related legislation, standards, municipal bylaws, and regulations related to all aspects of fire protection, fire prevention, and fire safety education.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • A current valid Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing.

Closing date is February 26, 2025.

The salary range for this position is $74,994 - $115,375 per annum (Based on a 42-hour week) and the successful candidates will be compensated within this range.
