Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services (QWFES) has achieved the Superior Water Tanker Shuttle Accreditation – Class 6, Commercial/Industrial Fire Protection from the Fire Protection Survey Services.
The Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation is a program that recognizes the fire department’s ability to shuttle water by way of tanker trucks to fight fires in areas without municipal hydrants.
The accreditation means that Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services has the ability to fight both industrial/commercial and residential structure fires in the City’s rural areas more quickly and effectively, by providing a continuous flow of water to fire scenes that are further away from municipal fire hydrants.
This important accreditation allows Quinte West residents and commercial property owners in areas without fire hydrants to gain access to cost-saving property insurance rates. Quinte West property owners are encouraged to provide a copy of QWFES’s accreditation certificate to their insurance company to determine what rates may apply.
“We are extremely proud of this accreditation,” says Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan. “Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services works hard to ensure we can provide the most effective fire and emergency services to the community.”
This certification is specifically designed for rural fire stations that are staffed entirely by volunteer firefighters.
“I would like to congratulate the volunteer firefighters for achieving this accreditation certification,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “This accreditation is a testament to the hard work and commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents”.
