London police are investigating a fire that broke out at a commercial building at Dundas and Hewitt streets in Old East Village on Thursday morning as a possible arson attack.
Fire crews were called to the two-storey multi-unit building at 737 Dundas Street at around 10:40 a.m.
"It looks like it was an old commercial storefront building that was boarded up," said London Fire Platoon Chief Colin Shewell. "It was a deep seated fire and [crews] made a quick effort to get it under control within 35 to 40 minutes."
The building was vacant at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.
The damage to the building is estimated at upwards of $800,000.
The London Police Service Street Crime Unit now investigating.
