A major Burlington intersection is closed after a three-vehicle collision Thursday evening (August 15) resulted in hazardous material leaking on the road.
The crash, which resulted in minor injuries, took place around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Britannia Road and Guelph Line One of the vehicles, which was carrying a pesticide in pails, turned on its side and the material began to leak on the road.
The Burlington Fire Department, Halton Police, emergency and environmental crews are all on the scene and have closed off the intersection while work to clean up the hazardous materials continues.
A safety zone around the areas has also been set up for accident clean-up as well as containment/removal of the chemical, a pesticide.
The following road closures are in effect until at least 9 p.m.:
- Northbound Guelph Line at Colling Road.
- Southbound Guelph Line at Lowville Park Road.
- Eastbound/Westbound traffic on Brittania Road is being re-routed at Guelph Line.
For public safety, those in the immediate vicinity have been advised to stay indoors with windows closed.
Residents are asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
