One person charged with murder in fatal residential fire in Greater Napanee

Lennox & Addington OPP have arrested and charged a person in connection with a fatal residential fire in Greater Napanee.

Just before 8:15 p.m. on August 3, Lennox & Addington OPP along with the Greater Napanee Fire Department and Hastings Quinte Paramedics responded to a fire in a multi-dwelling residence on John Street.

A 67-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later.

After an investigation, 31-year-old Andrew James Thompson of Picton was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Criminal harassment – threatening conduct
  • Arson – disregard for human life
  • Arson – damage to property – (three counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Saturday.

The L&A County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
