New volunteer recruits are needed to join the Norfolk County Fire Department.
Stations requiring new team members are Fairground, Langton, Port Rowan, Simcoe, Vittoria and Waterford.
No previous experience is required, and all training and certification is free of charge.
“Norfolk’s volunteer firefighters are an essential part of our emergency response efforts, and we are excited to welcome new recruits to join this dedicated team,” said Norfolk Mayor Amy Martin. “This is a unique opportunity for residents to receive high-quality training and make a meaningful impact in their community. I encourage everyone who is interested to attend the open houses and consider applying.”
Recruits will participate in a comprehensive training program to become fully certified firefighters. The program begins with involvement in operation activities within the first three months.
Following this initial phase, recruits will attend intensive weekend training sessions focused on specialized skills and engage in weekly training once they have mastered the basics. The training curriculum encompasses emergency patient care, emergency driving, fire chemistry, ground ladder operations, and structural search and rescue.
Open houses will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Simcoe Fire Station and Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Langton Fire Station.
All applicants must be available for testing on Saturday, Sept. 7. The deadline to apply is Monday, Aug. 26.
