A man is being treated for burns in hospital after a fire broke out at a semi-detached Thorold home Tuesday.
Thorold Fire and Emergency Services have called the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal to help investigate the afternoon fire at 38 Manley Cres., in the Confederation Heights area of the city.
Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics took a male resident of the home to hospital, EMS operations supervisor Bryce Brunarski said.
He said the patient had “significant burns.” No update on his condition was available.
“There was no rescue,” Thorold Deputy Fire Chief Mike DeGasperis said. “The patient was on the front lawn when we arrived.”
Firefighters put out the fire in less than 30 minutes, he said, adding investigators are still determining the cause and estimating damage.
The call came in to the fire department at about 3:25 p.m. Firefighters contained the damage to the unit where the fire began.
“There was some light smoke haze in the other unit, but within about an hour, it cleared out naturally,” DeGasperis said.
Fire departments seek the assistance of the fire marshal’s office to investigate fires that result in fatalities and injuries, are suspected arson or for which there is significant financial loss.
