Anyone who had business at London City Hall on Wednesday will have to change their plans.
The building at 300 Dufferin Ave. was closed due to an electrical issue that filled a utility room with smoke.
The smoky situation prompted the building to be evacuated and the London Fire Department called around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters determined a malfunctioning transformer was the cause of the smoke and London Hydro was brought in to make repairs.
By 11 a.m., city officials announced city hall would be closed for the remainder of the day and city workers were sent either home or to another location to continuing working.
"All in-person services at city hall are unavailable," the city said. "Londoners are reminded that many city services are available online on the city’s website, london.ca, and that common issues such as potholes, garbage collection, flooding and more can be reported using the city’s service London portal at https://service.london.ca/."
Services at other City of London offices including Citi Plaza, Ontario Works offices, and the Provincial Offences Administrative Office remain open.
City hall will reopen on Thursday.
