“Be prepared, know the risks”: local Fire Department says 20 minutes now could save you down the road

Taking 20 minutes this week to put a plan together could keep you safe in case of an emergency down the road.

The Renfrew Fire Department says Emergency Preparedness Week runs until this Saturday, the perfect opportunity to ensure you and your family are ready for at least 72-hours when trouble strikes.

Fire Chief Mike Guest explains that this year’s theme is “Be prepared. Know your risks,” and that being prepared means knowing what to do, where to go, and having the necessary supplies to respond to a emergency or disaster.

Make sure your plan includes safe exits from your home and neighbhourhood, meeting places to reunite with families and friends, contact info for people both close by and far away, health and insurance information and more.

The Renfrew Fire Department says community can get started on their emergency plans through a template supplied by the Government of Canada, which you can fill out here.
