Two people are dead following a collision near Limoges.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 30, the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision between a car and a transport truck on Highway 417 westbound.

The Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Russell Township Fire Services, the Nation Fire Department and the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team also responded to the scene.

Emergency crews arrived on scene to find both vehicles fully engulfed in flames.

Witnesses attempted to remove the occupants from the car, but were unable to because of the intensity of the flames and smoke.

The two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the transport was not hurt.

A portion of the westbound 417 remained closed for over 10 hours, reopening shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1.

The investigation is ongoing and the OPP is working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to confirm the identity of the deceased individuals.
