Frank Haylow
Wednesday January 1st, 1947 - Sunday March 31st, 2024
Retired Fire Chief Frank Haylow, 77 of Garden Hill, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 31, 2024 at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg. Born on January 1, 1947 in Toronto to the late Len and Anne Haylow (nee. Moylan).
Frank grew up and raised his family in Stouffville and finally settled in Garden Hill.
Frank loved serving his community and started his career with the Fire Service in 1973. Frank began as a Firefighter with the Borough of York Fire in 1973 and then moved to the Town of Markham Fire in 1979 as a Firefighter/Training Officer. In 1987 Frank took a position with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office as a Supervisor of Field Advisory Services until 2003. In 2003 when Port Hope amalgamated, Frank proudly accepted the role as their first full time Fire Chief until his retirement in 2008. Frank came out of retirement in 2009 to work as the part time Fire Chief in Stone Mills, retiring permanently in 2015.
Even in retirement Frank remained a Firefighter at heart. He always found ways to stay involved by keeping in touch with the many friends and colleagues that he met in his 42 years of service.
Frank was an avid reader, he loved to golf and he loved vacationing in Mexico.
Frank is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Elaine, and by his son Scott (Tracey), his daughter Lise (Steve) and his son Lindsey (Jamie) and by his grandchildren James, Claire, Michael and Lily. Also by his sisters, Marilynn (John), Nancy (Albert) and Dorathy and by his nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his brother Joe.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and PSWs of NHH for their compassion, kindness and care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday May 26th at the Port Hope Lions Club Banquet & Meeting Facility located at 29 Thomas Street, Port Hope from 1-4pm.
Rest in Peace Frank.
Dad, we will love you forever.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you please make a donation to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
