A man is in hospital fighting for his life and a woman was injured jumping out of a window following a house fire in Ajax early Friday.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to reports of a house fire on Dooley Cres., near Rossland Rd. and Harwood Ave., around 4:15 a.m.
When officers arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the front of the house. At the back of the home, flames and heavy smoke filled the residence.
Police say a man was found without vital signs at the front of the home. Firefighters began life-saving measures before officers took over and performed CPR.
Paramedics transported the man to hospital where he remains in life-threatening condition.
Earlier, cops say a woman was yelling from a second-story window and holding a child. An officer yelled for her to drop the child to him, which she did, and he was able to carry the child away from the burning home.
The child suffered minor injuries.
Police say the woman then jumped from the second-story window, which caused significant injuries. She was rushed a Toronto-area trauma centre and was in stable condition.
Police say the Ontario Fire Marshal office was called in, but the blaze does not appear suspicious at this time.
