A destructive fire above an Oshawa business is under investigation.
Officials say it started on the second floor of a building at 36 Park Road South, steps away from King Street.
Deputy Chief of Oshawa Fire, Todd Wood, is calling the blaze “suspicious.”
Crews were called around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
When they arrived, Wood says they encountered flames and heavy smoke coming from upstairs.
Firefighters sprang into action, quickly knocking down the fire.
They didn’t find any kind of ignition source, but Wood says the building has had issues in the past.
He’s heard about unsheltered people getting inside, but isn’t definitively linking these kind of incidents to the fire.
There’s a business on the first floor, but Wood can’t say whether upstairs is residential or just empty.
Durham police and the Ontario Fire Marshal have been called in to help investigate.
