Police seeking "suspicious person" after fire damages two homes
A fire early Friday has left two homes, number seven and number nine Westdale Avenue, in southwest London with an estimated $400,000 in damages.

Police are asking for tips from the public after fire early Friday left two homes in southwest London with an estimated $400,000 in damage.

London police were searching the area near Wharncliffe Road South and Southdale Road West at about 2:20 a.m. after reports of a suspicious person.

While looking for that person, officers found a shed on fire and called the London Fire Department to assist.

London Deputy Fire Chief Jack Burt said the blaze on Westdale Avenue originated in a pool shed before spreading to the house and a neighbouring property.

“Damage of the one property is pegged at $350,000 and $50,000 for the second property,” he said.

No one was injured during the fire.

Police have not confirmed any connection between the suspicious person reported in the area and the fire but are treating the blaze as suspicious.

The suspicious man was wearing dark clothing. No other identifying features were reported to police.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Burt said, adding the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified about the case.
