Jim was raised in Erin, ON, where he joined the Erin Fire Department at the age of 16 and rose through the ranks to eventually become Chief.  After moving his family to Alberta, he made many friends at many places over the years.  Jim worked at McMahon Stadium doing maintenance, at Calgary Correctional Centre as a Corrections Officer, as an employee of the Medical Examiner’s Office, in town works at the Townsite of Redwood Meadows, and in road maintenance at Volker Stevin.  Jim also served with Redwood Meadows Emergency Services where he attained the rank of Lieutenant and was awarded the Canadian Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal in 1996.

“Papa Jim” was known throughout the community as a helper to anyone in need.  He plowed driveways, gave rides, fixed cars, fed hungry people and checked in on elderly community members.  He served on the executive of the Bragg Creek Snowbirds 50+ group, where he took great joy in organizing snooker tournaments. He was a fixture at the local gas station every morning where he would have a coffee, do a crossword puzzle and “hold court” with locals stopping by to chat.  He will be dearly missed, after touching so many lives.

Jim asked that anyone wishing to make memorial donations direct their gifts to The Society For The Treatment of Autism, 404 94 St. SE. Calgary, AB, T2J 0E8, in gratitude for their work with his granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Redwood House, 1 Manyhorses Dr, Redwood Meadows, on October 4, 2019, at 1:00 pm.
