Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating a fire at a halal meat shop in Mississauga early Saturday that left one firefighter with minor injuries.
Investigators could not say how the fire at the Chop Shop, at 592 Rathburn Road W., started overnight.
It caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the Chop Shop.
The firefighter hurt in the blaze twisted his knee while climbing a ladder and was taken to a local hospital, according to Daniel Ennamorato, a platoon chief with Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services.
He was treated and released.
Ennamorato said fire crews received a call about the fire at 1:45 a.m. More than 40 firefighters worked on the fire during the night. It was brought under control at about 2:45 a.m. and has since been extinguished.
When firefighters arrived at the strip mall, flames were shooting out of the roof and the meat shop was fully engulfed.
The fire was contained to the property, but water and smoke damaged four other businesses in the plaza.
Investigators from the Office of the Marshal and Mississauga fire have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
Fire crews have left the scene in the hands of Peel police.
Const. Harinder Sohi, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, said officers are trying to notify keyholders of businesses in the plaza about the fire.
Peel police closed roads in the area as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
