With minor maintenance, decommissioned items can still be used in other jurisdictions

Firefighters Without Borders Canada made a trip to the Foley fire hall Jan. 22 to receive a donation of essential items from Seguin Fire Services.

Fire chief Sean Carroll and deputy fire chief Kevin Harmer welcomed Carl Eggiman, a volunteer from the organization, who accepted the items, including personal protective equipment, “Jaws of Life” tools, self-contained breathing apparatuses and a fire hose.

The items have been decommissioned by Seguin Fire Services in line with standards set by the Ontario Fire Marshal, but with some minor maintenance, the equipment can still be used in other jurisdictions.

“It’s gratifying to know that this equipment will not go to waste,” said Carroll. “We are grateful to Firefighters Without Borders Canada for doing this important work, and are committed to doing what we can to support our peers here in Canada and around the world who don’t always have the resources they need to serve their communities.”

Firefighters Without Borders Canada is an Ontario-based non-profit organization that provides training and equipment to communities throughout Canada and in countries all around the world, including Bolivia, Peru, Cuba and Honduras.

The organization has not yet determined where Seguin’s donated materials will be reused, but will keep the township informed as plans are finalized.
