Palmerston post office honours local emergency responders with plaque

PALMERSTON — When an emergency such as a fire or flood happens, it's instinct to retreat to a safe spot. For emergency responders, however, they run toward the problem, showing a dedication to their community and those who live here that is second to none.

Canada Post recognized that dedication to service and those sacrifices made in the line of duty by releasing a new series of 2018 stamps that honour the country's five branches of emergency response. Paramedics, the Canadian Armed Forces, search and rescue, police and firefighters were all included in the new line of 85-cent stamps and prints.

On Nov. 2 the Palmerston branch of Canada Post presented plaques to members of Wellington County OPP, Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service, Minto Fire and Mapleton Fire/Rescue depicting their respective stamp.

"On behalf of Canada Post and my colleagues here at the Palmerston post office, I want to thank you all for that you do. We certainly appreciate everything," said Linda Sachs, post master at the Palmerston branch. "Just knowing you guys are out there and we can rely on you is great."

Representatives from the local emergency response services were appreciative of the plaque, and thanked Canada Post for bringing them all together in one room for the presentation.

"It's not often that we get together in one room and not have an emergency to deal with," said Stephen Dewar of the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service. "We're fortunate that we all genuinely get along and work extremely well together, which isn't always necessarily the case. So, it's fitting that we're all here together today."

The stamps are available for purchase at www.canadapost.ca and at postal outlets across Canada.
