Fire crews respond to abandoned house fire in Galt

Cambridge firefighters responded to a fire at an abandoned house in the Galt area of the city.

CFD said the fire happened at 46 Park Hill Road with four stations responding to the fire. All four conducted searches. No injuries were reported.

Initial reports were that smoke was visible from the structure. Crews said all utilities have been shut down.

CFD Platoon Chief Mark Jones told CityNews 570 that they suspect people were living in the building even though it is vacant.

“We’re not sure what the cause of the fire is. The fire is out with no victims in the building.”

This is the third fire in the same area of the city. Jones said all three are being investigated separately.

“Any time you get a number of fires in a close proximity is a cause of concern,” said Jones. “We have no evidence at this time that it is linked. It could be an anomaly, it could be anything. At this point, we aren’t making any conclusions at this time. We are looking at each individual fire as a standalone incident.”

An official with the Cambridge Fire Department confirmed the cause of Monday’s fire remains under investigation and it’s too early to determine whether it’s suspicious in nature. The fire did not cause any structural damage to the building.
