Died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 20, 2025 at his home in Wasaga Beach at the age of 88. Rod, beloved husband of Miriam “Toots” (nee Conder) for over 66 years.Loving father of Murray (Janice), Leanne (Brian) and Brian (Sue). Predeceased by his daughter Charlene and son-in-law Darryl. Cherished grandfather of Kailey (Corey), Gwen, Dylan, Josh and Sarah. Dear brother of Joyce (Sandy) and Grant (Marilyn).
Rod will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, neighbours, many friends, his Masonic brethren and his former firefighter colleagues. His ethical code of honesty and hard work was grounded in his values of integrity and service to others. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed the company of many. Rod had a proud career with the Mississauga Fire Department, where he served for over 31 years and retired as a District Chief. He gave of his time to help individuals as well as organizations. He was deeply involved in the sporting community, particularly Mississauga and Erindale Lacrosse Associations. Back in the day, he loved racing mini stock cars which evolved into watching most any type of car racing. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and camping, and especially being at the trailer.
He found great joy in classic cars, country music and travelling. He exemplified the ideal of a Mason and was an active member of Northern Light Lodge in Stayner and was a long-time member of the Shrine. He was a man of faith and a committed member of the Wasaga Beach Community Presbyterian Church. He has left an indelible mark upon his communities.
Friends will be received for Visitation at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, Wasaga Beach Chapel, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach on Sunday March 23, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel, Monday March 24th at 2 o’clock. Reception to follow. Interment at Glendale Memorial Gardens at a later date. If desired, a donation to the Wasaga Beach Community Presbyterian Church or The Shriners’ Hospitals would be appreciated by his family. The family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Singh, Saint Elizabeth Health Care and all caregivers of Comfort Keepers and Bayshore Home Health.
