Wind knocks down trees and knocks out power

Quinte News

It was a wild and windy night in the Quinte region Wednesday. There are scattered power outages throughout the region.

Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says that between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. his crews responded to 13 calls involving downed power lines and trees with some catching fire. A hydro pole toppled down onto Wooler Road.

No injuries were reported.

As of early Thursday morning most people and businesses had power in the Belleville Trenton corridor, but further north toward Marmora, Madoc, and Tweed, there are more outages. Almost everyone in Prince Edward County has power.

Some outages should be repaired by 8 o’clock this morning while some others won’t be looked after until late this afternoon.
