A trio of homes suffered thousands of dollars of damage after an early-morning blaze at a Beechwood Avenue house spread to its neighbours.

Hamilton fire was dispatched to 57 Beechwood Ave. — between Sherman and Barnesdale — just before 4:30 a.m. on Monday following reports of smoke and fire, assistant deputy fire chief Steve Welton said in an email.

“Firefighters arrived confirming smoke and fire in the rear area of the home which was extending into the structure and the adjacent properties,” he wrote.

Crews quickly gained control and extinguished the fire, ensuring all occupants were out of the home, he said.

It’s unclear how many people were each of the homes at the time of the fire, but no related injuries were reported.

Photos from the scene on Monday evening show a charred rear of a brick bungalow, its paved backyard filled with broken furniture, tires, bricks and blackened debris. On Monday morning, flames and thick smoke could be seen coming from what appears to be a backyard on the residential street, which runs parallel to and south of Barton Street East, a video shows.

The May 13 fire is estimated to have caused a total of $260,000 in damages to three homes, including $200,000 at 57, $50,000 at 59 and $10,000 at 55, Welton said.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Monday afternoon. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called to investigate.
