Children aged 12 or under could become a youth fire chief for a day in Centre Wellington.

Centre Wellington Fire Rescue (CWFR) and Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington partnered for the initiative.

They ask people to make a donation to the local Crime Stoppers. Anyone who makes a donation of $10 or more now until March 31 will be entered into a draw to be honorary youth fire chief for a day. The draw will take place April 2.

It’s one entry per donation.

The youth fire chief must be 12 years old or younger. If the winner is younger than 10, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The winner will receive:

  • chief’s shirt
  • tour of the CWFR the fire hall
  • tour of Township of Centre Wellington municipal office
  • lunch with the CWFR chief
  • skills training with fire equipment
  • a CWFR swag bag
  • a Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington swag bag
  • and more

To make a donation, go to www.csgw.tips and scroll down to the “Donate Now” button on the home page.

Organizers say if you pay with PayPal, your information will be provided for the draw, but if you are using a credit card, you are asked to ensure you add an email address so that organizers can contact you.

The prize will be awarded April 10 and 11, depending on winner and equipment availability. The winner will also be featured in media and social media posts, organizers say.
