There is a new fire chief in town. East Gwillimbury announced it has hired Cory Mainprize as the town’s new fire chief. He will take over the role on June 3.

Mainprize will lead East Gwillimbury’s Fire and Emergency Services department and joins the town’s senior management team.

For the last seven years, Mainprize led the City of Barrie Fire and Emergency Services as fire chief and director of emergency services. Prior to the top job in Barrie, Mainprize served as deputy chief of operations and training, managing all emergency response operations and training.

During this time, he also oversaw the development of Barrie’s Fire Master Plan and Community Risk Assessment. Mainprize began his career in firefighting in 1998 as a volunteer firefighter with the Town of Caledon before joining the City of Barrie in 2000, as a firefighter.

“Chief Mainprize is an excellent selection for our next fire chief,” said Mayor Virginia Hackson. “I am confident he will bring a modern, collaborative and progressive approach to our leadership team and will be a great contributor as the town continues to grow.

Mainprize will replace interim Fire Chief Larry Brassard.

“I would like to share a heartfelt thank you to Fire Chief Larry Brassard as he concludes his role as interim chief, and for leading the department and helping us during recruitment,” Hackson said.
