We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking individual who wants to make a lasting impact on our organization and Innisfil Fire & Rescue Services! Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the Training Officer is responsible for the establishment, organization, coordination and administration of all training programs.
Directly in line with the Town of Innisfil’s Strategic Plan 2030, the Training Officer will be responsible for conducting and coordinating training programs that result in successful preparation of career, volunteer, and recruit firefighters to deliver fire protection services, as well as:
- Developing training manuals, lesson plans, guide sheets and an annual training syllabus for suppression staff to ensure they meet and maintain performance levels established by the department.
- Monitoring and evaluating ongoing training programs to ensure they are current, meet legislated and department requirements and address department training objectives; recommending candidates to attend courses and specialty training programs.
- Coordinating the delivery of fire service training programs such as recruit training, officer development, emergency patient care, vehicle driver/operator training, ice/water rescue and fire suppression.
- Maintaining comprehensive training records in the department data management system for all personnel.
- Ensuring obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation are met; coordinating with the Fire Prevention Officer on the development and maintenance of pre-incident plans.
We are seeking a candidate with the following accreditations:
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a full-time Fire Fighter, and proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate training programs.
- The following certifications are considered assets: NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 2 or equivalent, NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level 2 or equivalent, NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer, NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator.
- Current CPR, First Aid and AED.
- The successful candidate must be able to pass a Police security clearance including a criminal reference check as well as vulnerable screening, and will be required to undergo the Innisfil Fire & Rescue annual medical examination and physical fitness testing.
- Must possess as a minimum a valid Class “DZ” Ontario Drivers Licence and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Ministry of Transportation Signing Authority for Class DZ driver’s licenses, or willing to obtain.
- Availability to attend after hour’s meetings and training programs which may include evenings and weekends.
