Hanover Firefighter Honoured

A Hanover firefighter is receiving special recognition.

A special ceremony to mark the occasion was held at Hanover Council this week.

Platoon Chief Jason Rahn is the proud recipient of the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal.

The medal honors Canadian firefighters who have completed 20 years of service, ten years of which have been served in the performance of duties involving potential risks.

Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.

For Rahn, the last twenty years have flown by and he looks forward to many more years of service.

Rahn says he absolutely loves being a firefighter, as it runs in his blood.

Rahn is a fourth generation firefighter as his great grandfather, grandfather and father as well as a few uncles have all served the Hanover Fire Department. (dating all the way back to 1914)

As Platoon Chief, Rahn is in charge of training, it is his job to ensure the Department is up to Provincial standards in all training and new techniques.

Fire Chief Jeff Dentinger says the Hanover Fire Department greatly benefits from Rahn’s experience and leadership.

The Hanover Fire Department now boasts five members who have all earned the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal.

Rahn says being a firefighter has been a great experience and he encourages those who think they have something to offer to consider the vocation.

Rahn is well known for his community service efforts, in 2018 he was the recipient of Hanover’s Citizen of the Year.
