Deputy Fire Chief – Town of Sussex, New Brunswick

The Town of Sussex is seeking a full-time Deputy Fire Chief to support the delivery of fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, rescue services, emergency response, departmental training, and operational readiness.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief provides operational and administrative leadership, supervises career and volunteer personnel, leads emergency response operations, oversees firefighter training and professional development, supports fire prevention and public education initiatives, assists with departmental planning and budgeting, and acts for the Fire Chief when required.

Minimum qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Firefighter I and II certification, or equivalent
• NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Awareness certification, or equivalent
• At least three years of supervisory experience in the fire service
• Competency using Microsoft Office applications
• Valid New Brunswick 5E driver’s licence and satisfactory driver’s abstract
• Satisfactory vulnerable sector check

Preferred qualifications and experience include:

• Post-secondary education in fire service administration, public administration, business administration, management, or a related field
• Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Fire Investigator, Incident Safety Officer, and emergency management training or certifications
• Incident command experience
• Medical first responder qualification
• Extensive experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue, and training
• Experience working with volunteer firefighters

The successful candidate must be able to work a schedule that includes daytime and evening hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
