Stouffville has hired a new deputy fire chief.

The town announced the appointment of Jeff Bignell as deputy chief of support for Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services.

Bignell returns to the town after previously serving in the role until November 2024, when he accepted a deputy fire chief position with the City of Kawartha Lakes.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jeff back to Stouffville,” Mayor Iain Lovatt said in a release. “His proven leadership, extensive knowledge of the department and strong commitment to our community make him exceptionally well suited to help guide the continued growth of our emergency and fire services.”

During his time with the City of Kawartha Lakes, Bignell gained experience in another municipal fire service.

“Jeff is a respected and collaborative leader who brings valuable experience, continuity and stability to our department,” Stouffville Fire Chief Mike Doyle said. “His familiarity with our members, operations and community will allow him to quickly re-engage and make an immediate contribution. I am excited to welcome him back to the team.”

Bignell will officially assume his role Sept. 14.
