No one was hurt but damage is extensive after a house fire in Kitchener over the long weekend, and police have now laid an arson charge.
Kitchener Fire crews were called to a townhome on Courtland Avenue East Sunday morning around 6:30 a.m.
Two units were impacted by the fire, with early estimates indicating damage was around $200,000.
Officials said no one was hurt, as the units were unoccupied.
“There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters,” said city officials.
“At this time, there are no concerns regarding structural damage to the building.”
The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) later confirmed that a suspect was located when responding officers evacuated neighbouring units at the scene.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with arson following an investigation.
