There were no injuries after a Dodge Caravan burst into flames in the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW in Lincoln Thursday afternoon.

The call to Niagara West Fire and Emergency Services came at 5:41 p.m. Firefighters were on scene just before the Victoria Avenue off-ramp within 10 minutes, deputy Chief Bill Blake said.

He said the fire is believed to have started in the engine compartment but had spread through the entire vehicle by the time crews arrived. “It was a total loss,” he said.

“There were no injuries. It was just the driver in there who got out.”

Fourteen firefighters responded and quickly brought the fire under control. They left the scene within 40 minutes, Blake said.

Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Beamsville. Traffic in both directions was significantly impacted by the incident.

Though no cause has yet to be determined, the fire is believed to be the result of mechanical or electrical failure.
