Firefighters in Guelph were out on the Speed River, Tuesday night, rescuing a man from the cold, frigid water.
A post on X from the fire department calls it a “successful water rescue” in Royal City Park at Gordon Street.
The post from just before 8:30 p.m. includes a photo showing the firefighters already packing up while it was still daylight, with multiple personnel and the fire department’s boat in the picture.
The post said they got a man out of the river using a Stokes basket, which is like a stretcher with side walls and straps.
That man was given over to the care of paramedics.
There’s no explanation as to how or why he was on the river in the first place.
Data from the Grand River Conservation Authority shows river water temperatures on Tuesday were between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius.
